FAQ
What does AQI mean?
The European Air Quality Index. Lower is better: 0–40 good, 41–60 moderate, 61–80 poor, above 80 bad.
Where does the data come from?
Open-Meteo’s air-quality model (Copernicus CAMS) at the city-centre coordinate. It is a model estimate, not a measurement from a ground station, so street-level values can differ.
Why is Tbilisi’s air often heavy in winter?
Tbilisi sits in a river valley: on cold, windless days the air pools and traffic and heating emissions build up. A breeze clears it quickly.
What does the WHO recommend?
The 2021 WHO guideline for 24-hour means is 15 µg/m³ for PM2.5 and 45 µg/m³ for PM10. This page shows hourly values, so do not compare them to those limits directly.
Should air quality decide which district I pick?
The model cell is several kilometres wide, so it cannot separate districts. Look at green space, distance from main roads and elevation instead — all visible on the map.
